Horticulture
The Alaqsite'w Gitpu school has a vested interest in improving food security locally. The link between food sovereignty, food security, and co-management rely on the ability of communities to access resources that allow them to lead efforts towards local fresh vegetables.
We have invested in a Growing Dome to help facilitate local food production along with increasing student academic success. The program will provide students with experiential learning opportunities which give youth tools and hope for successful futures and refocuses their efforts into opportunities that go beyond academia. Studies have shown that children involved in extracurricular activities tend to perform better in academics than children who don’t participate or have access to extracurricular programming.
The Horticulture program started in late 2020, so stay tuned for more updates as our program develops!
